The Type 1 Diabetes Gala is an event in Canberra dedicated to improving the lives of those living with Type 1 Diabetes. Raising awareness, forming a community and bringing support to Type 1 Diabetes persons and families across Canberra and surrounds.
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune condition where the body’s own immune system is activated to destroy the beta cells in the pancreas which produce insulin. Insulin is a vital component for life and therefore must be administered exogenously via injections or a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure it is a lifeline. T1D is a chronic autoimmune disease that can develop at any age, there is no cure. Some days are better than others – but there is never a day off. T1D is with people every waking (and sleeping) moment of their lives, this impact can be deep and long-lasting for those living with T1D and their carers.
All proceeds raised at the Type 1 Diabetes Gala Canberra goes to a chosen charity. The 2024 Gala proceeds were given to JDRF Australia.
